Amazon Surges on Strong AWS Performance and Earnings Beat
Amazon's stock soared in after-hours trading following a robust third-quarter earnings report that surpassed analyst expectations. The company posted earnings per share of $1.95, well above the consensus estimate of $1.57, while revenue climbed 13.4% year-over-year to $180.2 billion.
Growth was broad-based, with North American sales rising 11% to $106.3 billion and international revenue jumping 14% to $40.9 billion. The standout performer was Amazon Web Services, which saw sales increase 20% to $33 billion—solidifying its position as the company's most profitable segment.
For the fourth quarter, Amazon projects revenue between $206 billion and $213 billion, exceeding Wall Street's $207.9 billion forecast. Operating income guidance of $21 billion to $26 billion also topped expectations of $23.41 billion.
